Eastern Oregon Hunt

Post by DDCalls »

Went hunting in Eastern Oregon for a couple of days and here are a couple of pics.

This is the big cat that I called in one afternoon during a stiff wind. My buddy decided to take a nap so I went by myself. Called for 1 minute, waited 2 minutes, just started calling again when he burst out of the rims about 500 yards away and made a beeline for me. He finally stopped at about 5 feet. I thought he was going to jump in my lap. Scared the poop out of me. Finally shot him at about 60 yards with the 204. DRT!

This next pic is a 2 hour calling session. 3 coyotes and one small bobcat.

In 2 and a half mornings of calling we must have called 50 coyotes into range. Unfortunately I am not fast on the gun and won't take marginal shots so we only collected 18 for the trip.

Man oh man am I ever addicted.

Hey DD: I recognize that country! Sounds like you had a grand time. Great looking kitty too.

Sure is great to get away for a few days and enjoy the wide open spaces we have. There's one thing my buddies from back east don't realize; our desert is NOT boring! You never know what critter you'll run in to. At one time, I never thought I'd see bull elk in the desert either....wrong! Thanks for sharing.

Rick

Yeah that is some incredible country. Wake up in the morning to herds of deer and antelope right outside the camper. All day long we were into critters. Seemed at times that the sound of a car horn would bring the dogs running. Of all the sets I made only 2 didn't produce a dog. Most brought 2 or more. It was just incredible.

We need to link up sometime and bust some critters.

Exactly where did you go? :D I recognize that country as well. Looks like its around Diamond, if you know where that is, but I won't butt into your hunting spot. ;) good coyote country around here.
