What would you do next?

About three weeks ago I bought a Ruger Number One Varmint in .25-06 Rem. I love the looks, clean lines and handling of the gun. :D I've done nothing to the gun other than put a Leupold 6.5 x 20 x40 and a Limbsaver pad on it. Started working up loads; first for a quick and dirty starting point I just...

Re: Looking for a single shot.....in .25-06

Took the plunge and bought a new Ruger Number 1-V on gunbroker.com. At $722. delivered, it was a pretty good price compared with others I saw. :) It's a blued gun, walnut stock, heavy barrel. If it shoots well and I like the handling (pretty certain I will) I may well sell the Sendero. Nothing wrong...

Re: Looking for a single shot.....in .25-06

I did think about a TC in .25-06 a few years ago, Ahab, but guys on the quarterbore forum said the triggers weren't much good and needed replacement right off. Maybe that's changed :?: The Ruger # 1 does sound nice, guys. It was a toss up between that and the Sendero when I bought the Rem a few year...

Looking for a single shot.....in .25-06

Anyone have a Ruger #1 in .25-06 Rem? Do you like the accuracy? I plan to reload for the gun I get, as I have for a .25-06 Sendero. Any other single shots in that caliber to recommend? I'd prefer a break open gun to a bolt action. Can't go the bucks for a Blaser, I want to keep my other guns, too. :...

Hogpopper, I love my CZ 527 Varmint in 204. As others have said it's very accurate with a good handload. Using 39 gr SBK in it. It's heavier than I thought it would be (10.2 I think) but still a great carry gun. The magazine is waaay to retentive for the cartridges which makes operating the bolt rou...

Rick, where can I get the Todd Kindler Series II annealing tip? I'm using the tip that came on my belt mounted torch and rotating the brass with a haemostat, then dropping it in ice water. It works but might be a tad faster with a better tip. Only on my 2nd loading of Win brass for the 204, so I've ...

Pretty farmland, sniper204. Looks like good groundhog territory, too.

Just being out in the country on some farmland is a big enjoyable part of varmint shooting for me, even if nothing's shakin'.

Bones, As Keith said, quallity is the number one thing: a self defense gun must be reliable above all else. What configuration of 45 ACP depends on what type you like to shoot most. I'm a fan of the 1911 guns and often carry a Springfield Ultra Compact (Officer's) in a IWB holster. I also like very ...

I just ordered the Leupold # 62170 scope with the Varmint hunters reticle. Got it from swfa, price included freebie alumina flip back lens covers and free shipping, not a bad deal.

Can't wait to start taking (making??) those 500+ yard shots on Chucky and Woody. :D

That's a good one, Critter. Maybe Leupold could do a special order scope with a transparent Hillary at the crosshairs? :D

Thanks, Rick. Sounds like you're very pleased with that reticle. Now to just locate a low price with some good service. ;)

Leupy varmint hunters reticle

Is anyone using this retricle on a Leupold scope? Like it?

I am thinking of getting the 6.5-20 x 40 for my CZ 527 Varmint in a 1" tube and the vhr looks interesting.

First woodchucks this year.

Woodchucks are just starting to venture out here and a nearby just mowed field got me out on Monday. I took five of them with my CZ527 Varmint, .204 Ruger, of course. ;) The largest was 13.5 lbs, pretty large for a spring chuck. The most fun were the two little ones at the same hole at 295 yards. :D...
